Meeting Minute 1/12/2012


Minutes to the Hawaii Korean Junior CC BOARD Meeting

Date: 1/12/2012; 7:30 p.m.

Members Presents:

Meeting was called to order. Fundraising, professional development, networking event, volunteer ideas were discussed. More importantly, it was emphasized that fundraising is essential to increase HKJCC cash flow in order to fund future networking events. The ideas are as follows:

1. Fundraising
  • Kettle Corn. Previously, HKJCC did kettle corn fundraising, and Danny will follow-up with his Kettle Corn contact with back payment of $600. Additionally, Danny will reach out to 2 gas stations as kettle corn selling locations. Overall, potential profit would be $3 to $4 per bag.
  • Koala Moa Chicken Plate lunch. Ed has a contact, and will follow-up.
  • Car Wash. Although a great idea, it’s time-consuming, and net profits may not be as high as Kettle Corn or Chicken Plate fundraisers.


2. Professional Development
  • Kirk Caldwell, Mayoral Candidate. Tentatively on 3/1. Danny to follow-up.
  • Potential Speakers: Ben Cayetano, Duane Kurisu
  • Seminars on How to Negotiate? How to ask for a raise or promotion? Crystal’s boss would be a potential speaker.
  • Financial Roundtable/Forum. Financial Planners, Bankers, and other Financial Professional. James C. to follow and engage with Bank of Hawaii Executive speakers.
  • Start-Up Business opportunities discussion segmented by specialty, i.e., Technology. Tyler and Ed to follow-up with speciality potential business.

  • Outdoor Fitness
  • Poker Party

  1. Volunteer Opportunities
  • Beach Clean-Up
  • Play Music, Interact, Paint walls at Retirement home - Cliff’s contact, will follow-up.
  • Serve Food at Shelter during Holiday season


Based on the ideas mentioned, board members came up with a tentative 2012 schedule.
  • February 2, 2012 -- General Meeting

  • February 19, 2012 (Sunday) -- Kettle Corn Fundraising at 2 Chevron Gas Station Locations.

Time: 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (3 shifts) - a sign-up sheet will be published
Danny Kim to secure gas station location and contact kettle corn fundraiser.
  • March 1, 2012  - General Meeting (Updates); Kirk Caldwell speaker

  • March 17, 2012 (St. Patrick’s Day) -- Hike at Sherwoods, followed by green beers at Murphy’s downtown

  • April 21, 2012 -- Professional Development Workshop with Speakers; Topic “How to Negotiate? How to ask for a Raise/Promotion? (James F./ Crystal to secure possible speakers)

  • May13, 2012 (Mothers’ Day) - Tentatively - Volunteer at Cliff’s Retirement Home

  • May TBD - Financial Forum/Roundtable - Bank Executive(s) and Financial Planner/Professionals; Attorneys (talk about contracts/trusts) - Alan/Tyler/James C. follow-up

  • June TBD - Summer Kick-off (Networking) at Alan Chu’s Kahala Home; Intramural Sports; Poker, etc.

  • July 14, 2012 - 11th Annual Korean Festival at Kapiolani Park Bandstand Area

  • August - December Events to be furnished


Miscellaneous Topics
  1. Board concurred and verified name change to “Asian American Junior Chamber of Commerce”; however, within the Korean community, we will continue to market as the Hawaii Korean JCCs. Danny and James C. will file official name change
  2. Board agreed Board Meetings will change from every Thursday to every other Thursday. Next Board meeting will be on January 26, 2012
  3. Tyler to follow-up with contact in new junior chamber logo.

Meeting Minutes for 12/1/12


Here's are the Meeting Minutes for the Honolulu Korean Jaycees (HKJC) General Meeting on December 1st, 2012.
  • Growing membership (HOW)
    •   Increasing number of board members
    •   Changing the name from Korean Jaycee to Asian American Jaycee
    •   Better PR method
  • New board member titles and responsibilities
    •   Director of PR- responsible for networking with external venues and organizations to build relationships and awareness of KJC. Work closely with other board members for executing events, meetings, and recruiting.
    •   Director of IT- responsible for maintaining KJC's website, facebook, and any online social networking channels to ensure the information online is current and accurate.
    •   Director of Social Events- Responsible for planning and executing any social and fund raising events.
    •   Director of Community Service- responsible for building relationship with schools, communities, non-beneficial organization and seek for volunteer opportunities.
    •   Director Professional Development- to be a liaison between State and KJaycee and also educate the members how to develop professionalism.

2012 Board Member Elections!

Explanations of Duties: 
  • Director of Professional Development: The board member in charge of professional activities will organize activities related to professional development. This includes organizing seminars and/or presentations that help our members build skills and or introduces tools that help build our careers. They will also be responsible for looking for new and innovative ways to help the careers of all members in the Honolulu Korean Jaycees. Presentation examples include Public speaking, resume building, and the such. They will also be a liaison between State and the HKJC.
  • Director of Community Service: The board member in charge of community service will organize events that relate to the community. They will organize events that allows the members to help the community in any way possible. They will also be responsible for looking into new and innovation ways the Honolulu Korean Jaycees can benefit the community and society. 
  • Director of Social Events: The board member in charge of social events will organize social events for the enjoyment of all members of the Honolulu Korean Jaycees as well as anyone else willing to come. They will be responsible for planning and executing any social and fund raising events.
  • Director of Public Relations: This board member will responsible for maintaining the image of the Honolulu Korean Jaycees. This includes responsibilities relating to marketing the HKJC to both the Korean community but also the rest of the island as well. They will be expected to interface with community leaders and to be mindful of the public implications of the actions of the HKJC. So don't make a fool of yourself, you'll make us look bad. They will also be responsible for networking with external venues and organizations to build relationships and awareness of KJC and working closely with other board members for executing events, meetings, and recruiting.
  • Director of Information Technology: This board member will be responsible for all technology related matters. This include taking care of the HKJC website, email, blog, and Facebook page. They will also be responsible for helping the other members with any technology related needs such as helping other directors pass out notifications about event through Facebook, email, the website...They will also be expected to look for new ways to help the HKJC through technology. I am the current "IT guy" but if I do not win this position, I am more than willing to teach you.
  • Secretary: This board member is expected to be at all board and general meetings. They will be expected to take down the minutes during meetings, and other things. I'm not sure what a secretary does because I've never had one but I'm sure Crystal will train you.


Nominations: We will open nominations for the rest of the month. If you want to nominate yourself or anyone else, please send an email to HonoluluKoreanJC@gmail.com with the position you wish to nominate the nominee for and the name of the nominee. I will add their names to this list.


Election: On January 5th (Thursday) December 29th (Thursday), we will hold a formal election at Alan Chu's residence. (Email: HonoluluKoreanJC@gmail.com for directions) If you cannot make that date, inform me beforehand with your vote and I'll be sure to count it. After the election, the member will be sworn in and presented with a plaque or something cool like that.


The other positions previously created will be transferred over to the next year due to the fact that we've only been in existence for less than then the one year term for all board members. To help solidify our organization, they will remain in their positions for the next year where we will hold another election for all board positions.
